How do characters change or evolve throughout the course of the story?
Edmond Dantes, the main character throughout the novel goes through many transformations in character. He starts out in his normal form as Edmond, a poor man that has just come into love and great opportunity. After the captain of the ship he sails dies, Edmond receives the chance to become captain of the ship and accepts the job. Others on the boat see this as foolish and many others deserve the job way more then Edmond so they take revenge on him through their jealousy. Also, when Edmond returns, his girlfriend becomes his bride to be. His best friend who also has feelings for his fiancee becomes jealous of his new love and soon to be wealth. He is framed for treason and jailed. Over the years he creates a plan to escape and finds out about a great treasure from an Italian priest. with this treasure he creates this great count so he can get back into the lives that put him in jail. With this wealth he had to kill off Edmond so he could go through with his plan. His father hears of this news and kills himself. He is now without love and his father. With the identity of the count he can destroy the lives that have destroyed the life of Edmond Dantes. With money and this new found fame, the Edmond Dantes that everyone liked turned in to this tyrant for revenge and hate for others.
